Stars for Kingscliff Triathlon
FOUR-TIMES champion Courtney Gilfillan has her sights set on another Kingscliff Triathlon crown on the Tweed Coast next month.
And the annual classic has also attracted the attention of past dual men’s winner Adam Gordon, who faces stiff competition from the 2016 runnerup Dan Stein.
The triathlon is offered in five distances, including two specifically tailored to children and organisers are hoping that the growing excitement of next year’s Commonwealth Games has a cascading effect on local participation in sport.
“The kids’ races kick off the day and it’s the favourite part of the event for our team,” event manager Kevin Pready said.
Water safety is being managed by the Cudgen Headland Surf Life Saving Club, which is the official charity to benefit from the racing program.
“The involvement of the local community is ingrained within the Kingscliff Triathlon,” race director Mike Crawley said.
Competitors will hit the surf and bitumen for the 16th edition of the race on Sunday, December 3.
