A new low in garbage
SEA creatures in the deepest place on Earth – the Mariana Trench – have been found with plastic in their stomachs.
Tiny crustaceans nearly 11km down in the darkest depths of the Pacific Ocean are eating plastic, scientists said.
The finding now means that nothing living in the world’s seas remains untouched by man-made rubbish.
Every creature sampled in a place 10,916m below the surface known as Challenger Deep had swallowed microscopic plastic fragments.
