WE have the medals, now we need the hero.

Police are searching for an old soldier – or a family member – after a set of World War II medals was found on a Gold Coast street.

The recipient would have served in the Pacific theatre durign the war.

The five miniature medals, with ribbons, were found by a member of the public in central Surfers Paradise near the suburb’s RSL on November 14 and handed in to police.

It is thought they may have been lost on Remembrance Day, Saturday November 11.

A memorial and wreathlaying service was held in Cavill Park, behind the Surfers Paradise RSL, at 11am that day, followed by refreshments at the club.

The highly worn medals are being held at Surfers Paradise police station.

Officers have launched an appeal for help from the public.
