Kerr’s tour dream is still alive
TWEED Coast star Josh Kerr has kept his chances of requalifying for the World Surf League championship tour (CT) alive by progressing through his sudden-death heat at the Hawaiian Pro event at Haleiwa.
Kerr will miss the cut for automatic requalification to the CT but is working his way up the ladder in the qualifying series (QS) in a bid to make the top tier again next season.
Kerr won his Round 2 heat at Haleiwa in 1-1.7m swell, with he and second-placed Brazilian Lucas Silveria advancing to the third round.
Several other local products, including Gold Coaster Jack Freestone, Lennox Head’s Stuart Kennedy and Stradbroke Island rookie Ethan Ewing, also remain in the contest.
