GOLD Coast City players Eoghan Murphy and Jarrod Kyle have found a new home with the club that will take over their former club’s National Premier Leagues Queensland licence.

The pair have signed with Gold Coast Knights, a club that will join the NPLQ in 2019 following the decision by Palm Beach Soccer Club to cut ties with City and hand back their licence for the national competition.

Knights coach Grae Piddick, the duo’s former mentor at City, said the two would be integral to the club over the next two seasons.

“Signing Jarrod and Eoghan is fantastic for the club,” Piddick said. “They are proven performers.

“From my point of view I’m really happy they have made the step and it shows a bit of courage as well in their part to come on this journey with us.

“The plan is to be having a side that is challenging in the NPLQ in 2019 and to do that we need to build a very good squad for next season’s Gold Coast Premier League season. The premier league will still be tough competition and we know there are still some strong sides.

“Even some clubs that haven’t been as strong in the past sound like they have improved and are going to be recruiting quite well.

“It will still be a difficult task next year. We need to make sure we are on the money from the word go.”

City’s former top English striker Sam Smith looks set to join South Melbourne. Gold Coast Knights will begin today.
