COMMITMENT: GOLDOC will not exist six months after the Commonwealth Games. Will you support creating a permanent legacy group to influence the State and local governments on attracting future sporting events?
LNP: Through our TourismQ initiative the LNP will work with the tourism industry to attract future major events for the Gold Coast.
LABOR: We are looking into how we could establishing a legacy oversight committee to monitor the progress of initiatives introduced to capitalise on the Games.
COMMITMENT: Stakeholders are investigating a Parklands 2 — a new base for harness and greyhound racing along with a site for the Gold Coast Show. Will you back this proposal and work with council to develop a site and business plan?
LNP: The LNP’s streamlined Market-Led Proposal framework will consider any proposals for a new harness and greyhound racing base along with a site for the Gold Coast Show.
LABOR: The former Bligh Labor Government committed $10 million towards the cost of a new harness and greyhound racing facility to replace Parklands. This contribution is included in Racing Queensland’s $120 million Racing Infrastructure Plan. RQ is working with all stakeholders to deliver the infrastructure the racing industry needs, including on the Gold Coast. COMMITMENT: The emergency department and maternity unit at the Gold Coast University Hospital are strained. Will you agree to start costing and planning for a new hospital in the city’s north?
LNP: The LNP will deliver a Hospital Planning Commission to focus on delivering better health services for the areas of highest need. It will investigate the requirements of the northern Gold Coast as one of Queensland’s fastest-growing regions.
LABOR: The Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service has purchased a 13.5 hectare parcel of land adjacent to Coomera Station in anticipation of future growth. Gold Coast Health is working with Queensland Health on its statewide system planning process, which considers population growth, demographic change to ensure service requirements meet future demand. COMMITMENT: Funding is desperately needed for a second community legal centre to help with the domestic violence crisis. Would the Government provide funding to the Robina Community Legal Centre, given DV cases are up more than 90 per cent in nearby Mudgeeraba?
LNP: The LNP will fund Robina CLC for the first time, with $550,000 over three years.
LABOR: The Gold Coast Legal Centre and Advice Bureau received increased funding of $2.8 million over three years to help vulnerable people, particularly DV victims.
