COMMITMENT: New research reveals the M1 will reach vehicle capacity in some sections as early as next year. Will you fund the M2 west of the M1? Or do you have another solution?

LNP: Yes. The LNP will fund a second M1 with the Commonweal­th Government. We will also continue with the planning for the widening of the M1 between Varsity Lakes and Tugun.

LABOR: The Palaszczuk Government is delivering two major upgrades at Mudgeeraba to Varsity Lakes and the Gateway Merge. We’ve committed to a third major upgrade with $206 million more on the table to finish a six-lane minimum all the way to the border.

COMMITMENT: Given the back-up of traffic on the M1, will you provide a funding commitment to solve the interchang­es?

LNP: Yes. The LNP will deliver $100 million of ramp upgrades and improvemen­ts with our priority ramps being exit 41, 45, 49 and 57.

LABOR: We have committed $25 million for interchang­e upgrade at Oxenford and $16 million in planning work to prepare the Gateway Merge inbound business case for further upgrades.

COMMITMENT: Will you commit to progressin­g funding to plan light rail stage three from Broadbeach to Burleigh and work with council on a business case? Will you commit to backing light rail to the airport and border?

LNP: The LNP will work closely with the Gold Coast City Council to finalise the business case for Gold Coast light rail and listen to the community about the route.

LABOR: We have committed $5 million to the business case for Stage 3A of the light rail and will continue to work with the council and the community to deliver further stages, including the potential to extend to Coolangatt­a.
