Bright says none finer than Scott
SCOTT McLaughlin is better than Peter Brock.
That is the stunning claim from Jason Bright on the eve of the championship decider with the V8 veteran rating the DJR Team Penske young gun the best driver he has seen.
In a bombshell call ahead of McLaughlin’s one-on-one fight against Jamie Whincup for the V8 crown, Bright declared McLaughlin the best V8 racer he has driven against during his proud 20-year Supercar’s career.
And Bright has raced against Brock, Mark Skaife, Craig Lowndes and Whincup – all greats of the sport.
“I think Scott is the greatest I have seen,” Bright said.
“Some of his laps this year have just been spectacular.
“I don’t think I have ever seen anyone get as much out of his car as Scott does. He is just unbelievable.”
Bright rated McLaughlin ahead of nine times Bathurst winner and former Holden Racing Team stablemate Brock in a call that is sure to spark widespread debate.
“Look, it is hard to compare guys across different eras,” Bright said. “But I just haven’t seen someone with this much raw talent or ability to get a result out of a car.”
Bright declared McLaughlin’s championship rival Whincup as the next best ahead of the mouth-watering Newcastle 500 CBD street fight.
“Jamie’s achievements speak for themselves,” Bright said.
“His records are unbelievable.… Scott is just well on top of his game.”
Bright said McLaughlin’s feats in a Garry Rogers Motorsport Volvo proved the Kiwi wunderkind was a champion in waiting.
McLaughlin won six races while driving the X60 before switching to DJR Team Penske this year.
