Sorry for rape joke

LIBERAL by-election candidate John Alexander has apologised after a video emerged in which he makes a crude joke about rape.

Mr Alexander was filmed at a Brisbane pub in 1995 telling two jokes – the first about a Catholic priest using a confessional to find “tramp” women, and a second, which included the rape joke.

“More than 20 years ago I told crude and inappropriate jokes which were completely unacceptable, and I apologise unreservedly,” Mr Alexander said yesterday. “There is no place for jokes about violence against women.”
