HOTEL MOTEL IN EXPERT HANDS

- ALISTER THOMSON

THE sale of the Advancetown Hotel Motel for about $2.1 million has settled – helping to pave the way for Nerang RSL to push ahead with a $25 million makeover of its own premises.

Nerang RSL in August sold the property, which it had purchased for $2.35 million in 2005, to David and Janine Mills.

The pair previously owned a pub on Thursday Island, while David’s parents established the Bearded Dragon on Mount Tamborine and his brother owns The Veresdale Hotel in Beaudesert.

Janine said after running their asphalt carting business, the motel purchase would see them returning to a more familiar industry.

“This is a passion that runs within the family.”

Advancetown Hotel Motel occupies a 7.186ha two-title holding at 402 Nerang-Murwillumbah Rd.

It comprises a 2740sq m tavern with a bar, bistro, commercial kitchen, lounge and adjoining 563sq m covered outdoor dining area as well as six motel units.

The asset also includes a detached bottle shop at Nerang Fair Shopping Centre.

Nerang RSL is expected to begin renovations of its premises mid next year.
