Labor young gun Meaghan Scanlon spearheads party’s Coast comeback
SHE is destined to become the youngest female politician in Queensland Government history and Labor heavyweights say she is the silver bullet to fixing the M1 gridlock.
Meaghan Scanlon, 24, is expected to win the crucial seat of Gaven and give Labor the Gold Coast foothold to ensure a M1 fix is fast-tracked.
The Pacific Motorway defined the election for the city and now Labor leaders are promising to keep it on the political agenda.
“I travel the M1 frequently so know it’s a big issue,” Miss Scanlon said.
Labor star Kate Jones, dubbed the Minister for the Gold Coast, admitted roadside assist giant RACQ was “probably” right three weeks ago when it told the Bulletin both Labor and the LNP’s election pledges on the M1 were needed as it was so bad.
“I think that is probably true,” Ms Jones said yesterday. “But the problem with the (LNP’s) M2 plan was they had no money to fund it.
“Meaghan will make it very clear her community will want to make the M1 a priority for both state and federal governments into the future.”
