MERMAID BEACH
Veteran LNP MP Ray Stevens had his margin chopped from 12.9 per cent to 10.3 per cent under new boundaries. He faced a field of independents including community lobbyist Mona Hecke who outpolled the Greens. Ms Hecke has built a profile after a recent tilt at local government. The LNP vote, on first preferences, dropped from 52.35 per cent to 44.90 per cent. Labor is continuing to poll around 24 per cent in this seat which takes in some of the city’s richest suburbs. The Green vote has stayed much the same. Mermaid Beach remains a very safe LNP seat and the only change will be in representation when Mr Stevens finally retires.
