Delay over department
THE final decision on the Gold Coast City Council’s review of the Economic Development and Major Projects division has been delayed.
Councillors were set to make a decision today on whether the department would be dissolved.
The department currently deals with items such as the proposed cruise ship terminal, the cultural precinct and major events like the Commonwealth Games and the GC600.
Council CEO Dale Dickson was asked by councillors to provide more information.
“The review will be discussed at the last Council for 2017 (8 December) as officers required more time,” Acting Mayor Donna Gates said.
It is understood the recommendation is to dissolve the department and split it’s function’s between the office of the CEO and City Infrastructure. A FATHER of two pleaded guilty to riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle with a blood alcohol reading of more than more than four times the legal driving limit.
Darren John Wilson, 48, spent five days in hospital in August after crashing at Elysium Rd at Carrara.
Southport Magistrates Court heard Mr Wilson had a blood alcohol reading of 0.225.
Mr Wilson’s lawyer Campbell MacCallum told the court his client decided to “embark on a journey of self destruction” following a “goodbye phone call” from a friend who had terminal liver cancer.
As a result of the crash Mr Wilson suffered bleeding on the brain and broken ribs.
Magistrate Mark Howden placed him on probation, ordered him to undertake counselling and disqualified his license for 15 months.
