Lifeguard honoured
PIONEERING surf lifeguard Warren Young has been honoured as a Gold Coast Tourism life member.
The 44-year veteran of the industry was instrumental in pushing for increased beach patrols, elevated lifeguard towers and swimming between the red and yellow flags.
He humbly accepted the tourism honour yesterday saying it stemmed from none other than a love for the city’s beaches and keeping beachgoers safe.
“Often we look for a quick fix which doesn’t work but the City of Gold Coast believed in me. It was a commitment by staff and by council who saw a worthwhile investment in our future,” he said.
