Fears price will hit Christmas cheers

-

PUB punters like Tweed Heads painter Steve Price who regularly pop into a bottlo on way the home from work said he hasn’t noticed the price hike but said he would be more strategic when it came to buying cartons for Christmas.

“It hasn’t bothered me a great deal when I’m buying a few but there is no way I can be paying an extra couple of dollars at Christmas,” Mr Price.

“I usually just go to whichever bottlo is the most conscribed venient but I will have to think about it a bit more now.”

American tourists Lynn Schmidt and Don Kraft deTraders the tax as “horrendous” but said they didn’t come to Australia to drink beer.

The couple from Houston said they went to buy a carton of Great Northern from a bottleshop in Tweed Heads but left empty handed.

“It was pretty costly and we couldn’t justfy spending that much,” Mr Kraft said.

“We love Australia and their beers but it was a bit of a culture shock. The price could be a little more accomodating.”
