Battler’s shock at $800k windfall

- TANYA WESTTHORP

A GOLD Coast battler didn’t realise he’d won $800,000 in the lotto for several days because he was “busy working”.

The Currumbin man only discovered yesterday morning that his 18-game QuickPick ticket he had bought from Currumbin Creek News had won Division One in Saturday’s Gold Lotto, netting him more than $812,000.

He was one of three Gold Coast people to land a huge lotto win over the weekend.

He said he would use the money to “look after my family the best I can”.

“I didn’t have a clue! I’ve been working and hadn’t checked my ticket until now,” he said when he got the call about his win.

“That’s fantastic, mate! That’s life changing. That is unbelievable!” he exclaimed.

“I don’t sound it now but I’m absolutely going off inside. I’ve been screaming for 10 minutes! I’m absolutely ecstatic!”

A woman who bought a 50game QuickPick entry from newsXpress Runaway Bay also discovered yesterday she’d won $800,000 while a man in his early 20s from Pacific Pines found out yesterday he’d won $1 million.

The Pacific Pines man woke yesterday to discover he’d won Monday night’s Gold Lotto Division One prize after only playing for a few weeks.

“I was just thinking I’d give it a go. I never thought I’d win anything big,” he said.

He plans to use his milliondollar windfall to have a great family Christmas and replace his “unreliable” car.
