STUDIO VILLAGE COMMUNITY CENTRE:
If you feel confused about the Gold Coast’s public transport system this free community initiative could be just the ticket.
Studio Village Community Centre, with the help of the Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services is running a new pilot program which assists seniors in learning to use the network.
Residents aged 65 and over who are keen to use the bus, train and trams but don’t feel confident to do so are encouraged to contact the centre for help.
A travel mentor will accompany you on your first trip and give you information about the transport, Go-cards, and where to find information to assist with easy travel.
Project manager Raelene Helou said travel mentors will meet with passengers and provide them with a travel plan to their destination as well as a map before making a time to join them on the journey.
If you are interested in volunteering as a travel mentor or participating in this program call Raelene on 5529 8253.
