CARRARA CENTRE TO LEAVE GAMES LEGACY
A LASTING legacy from the Commonwealth Games will be the new Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre at Carrara.
In April, it will host the badminton, para powerlifting, weightlifting and wrestling competitions.
Finished a year before the Games, the new facility features two indoor sports halls connected by a public plaza.
The centre incorporates several sustainability initiatives, including about 280 solar panels and high efficiency LED lighting.
The venue has already been in the international spotlight, having hosted the prestigious badminton competition, the Sudirman Cup.
After the Games, the centre will provide a long-term legacy as a facility for the community, elite high performance training camps and major events.
