Search for sunken car

A WOMAN is believed to have died after her car plunged into a waterway south north of the Gold Coast.

Emergency services were called to the Logan River, near Albert St at Waterford West, about 4pm yesterday.

Police divers spent the afternoon searching the waterway but have so far not been able to locate the woman or her vehicle.

A Queensland Police Service spokesman said witnesses claimed they saw the car accelerate as it drove into the water.

A witness told the Nine Network one of his friends’ dove in to try to help, but there was nothing he could do.
