BEAGLES GET SNOUT AND ABOUT

- AMANDA ROBBEMOND

WHEN a pack of beagles and their owners get together for a walk, there’s bound to be some gossip about their cheeky fourlegged companions.

Known for their excellent sense of smell and mischievous nature, Beagle Club of Queensland president Jeff Souter said owners and their dogs had a ball at the event discussing each other’s pets.

“There’s nothing like being able to get together and for owners to talk about how naughty their beagles are and what fun they’ve been up to,” he said.

Mr Souter said 225 dogs and their owners turned up for the event, with most beagles more than happy to walk the 5km from Federation Park to the sandpumping jetty at The Spit.

He said the numbers were the second highest turnout in the 10 years they had hosted the walk, only beaten by a world record attempt in 2015 when 403 of hounds got together.

Mr Souter said beagles tended to bay which was “quite a different sound.”

Owners came from across southeast Queensland, including Logan, Beenleigh and Nerang.
