FAMILY’S $3.66M ULTIMATE IMUPLSE BUY

- ALEISHA DAWSON

A BRISBANE-based family splashed out $3.66 million on a Gold Coast penthouse – just 15 minutes after viewing it for the first time.

The mega sale over the weekend kicked off the Gold Coast’s summer selling season with a bang.

“The purchasers weren’t going in with the intention of buying the property but after seeing what was on offer and how special the penthouse is they immediately asked to register for the auction,” Tolemy Stevens of Harcourts Coastal said.

“It has one of those showstopping views that when you walk in is nothing short of breathtaking.”

It is understood the buyers already own a holiday apartment on the Gold Coast and were looking to expand their property portfolio before Christmas.

Eight registered bidders lined up on Saturday for the three-bedroom residence in DeVille Apartments which was on the market for the first time in 31 years.

Bidding kicked off at $2 million and quickly increased to $3 million.

The unit attracted a flurry of bids after it was called on the market at $3.2 million.

Property records show the late Denis and Eileen McEniery bought the property on levels 26 and 27 for $1.32 million in 1986.

“I was told my grandfather went upstairs to the auction in the lift just wearing shorts and no shirt and ended up winning the auction,” grandson Will Griffin told the Bulletin when the property hit the market.

A rooftop pool, sun-lounging deck, two wet bars, sauna, spa and expansive formal and living areas are among the property’s luxury features.
