I just wanted to say what a great article Emily Macdonald wrote about Surfers Paradise Surf Club in Gold Coast Eye magazine. The action on these patrols is intense and I don’t think the general public appreciate the great work our volunteer Surf Lifesavers do in looking after tourists and locals. Shane O’Connor, OAM

History has proven, ‘little rocket men’ ... usually try to become ‘BIG rocket men’. Stop the childishness, pettiness and infighting, Canberra, and install realistic antiicbm defences, on Cape York. The barbarian is almost at our most northern gate ... Lest we forget.

One can only hope that Prince Harry stays well away from accepting the ludicrous offer from our well meaning Mr Ciobo. The man is 33 years of age not 23 years. Jillian

Cameron Caldwell, a solicitor making decisions on building setbacks and density a massive mistake. A landscape gardener needed. Our once beautiful city being defiled rapidly. Zz

When we were paying 1.50 a litre petrol some time ago oil was over 100 a barrel, last night it was 57 and we are paying 1.50. Is the government (ACCC) afraid of oil companies? What a rip-off. Al

Goodonya Whyatt (your views 1/12), agree and have argued this for a long time. Wouldn’t say GC is the most ‘most’ boring city though, it’s better than Dhaka, Lagos and Riyadh but that’s about it. That’s what happens when your grandma (nanny) runs the show, as in Nanny State! Barry C – Carrara

I see that Ms Palachook will not rely on the minor parties to form government. Has she not already done that with the preference set up and the new electorates that put part of Labor electorates into marginal LNP electorates. Pretty clever don’t you think.

In regard to Paul Weston’s article ‘Case made for light rail to Burleigh’ in GCB 1/12. Where did Acting Mayor Donna Gates get the information that everyone wants the tram to Coolangatta?

There are three major influences in life. Family, schools and society. If family drink and do drugs and it is also part of society then society beliefs need to be challenged.

Tim Nicholls fantasising in the that he is still in the hunt to be premier with lots more votes to count.

I seem to remember some time

ago reading in the Bulletin a call for owners of buildings along the Gold Coast Highway to smarten up and paint that section white in the lead up to the Commonwealth Games. It looks so good and really shows the rest of the building that always looks dark and dingy. So far nothing has changed.

Extend the lightrail, and move the nightclubs towards the end of the Spit, where the noise and the ‘feraldom’ behaviour won't annoy anyone. It would also be handy to new oceanside/Spit CST visitors.

It’s about time council installed speed humps on approaches to roundabouts. Drivers use roundabouts as fast as they can, they are dangerous and cause drivers to increase their speed, just like they were on a racing track. Speed humps will slow drivers down. Mike

Sam Dastyari, do yourself, your party and the country a favour and go and get a real job mate. ERB

Good to see Stuart Robert, the federal member of Fadden, who tried getting his staff elected onto Gold Coast City Council has got his media adviser Sam O’Connor elected to state parliament as the member for Bonney See ya at the next Origin Series, Jayne. Qld

Gold Coast Bulletin you call Jarryd Hayne a superstar. He’s not. Smith, Thurston and Slater, to name a few, are superstars. Hayne thinks he is a superstar because media talks him up. GEZ

People complaining about 4WDs parking in shopping centre carparks are just small minded people driving small cars. Dan

What about us poor garden gnomes. Can you imagine what we had to put with in the Backyard?

Moving the nightclub precinct to Bundall is a great idea. They already have a legalised brothel there. We regularly walk into Surfers early morning to be stepping over wee and vomit. It is smelly and so disgusting, we never dine there like we and our family used to years ago. From a Local

I note in the USA there’s a team called Redskins. I am outraged and offended they are not made to change their name to the Native American Peoples team. Robert

12000 abortions across the state a year, that’s unbelievable. What happened to contraception, that’s sad stats.

Good on ya’s, bag the Hayne, you should bag the club too while yr all at it, you all expected and paid too much, at the end of the day they’re going to do wot’s best for themselves, all they’ve got to do is turn up or get injured. It’s not sport anymore!
