Sticking by duo reaps rewards for Hatch
LINDSAY Hatch’s patience in She Is Fierce and Jadentom has paid off with both helping the trainer celebrate a weekend of success.
Both lightly raced horses have had slow starts to their careers for different reasons but are starting to show the talent Hatch has always believed they had.
Jockey Justin Stanley rode She Is Fierce ($19) to win the Fillies and Mares Maiden Handicap (1400m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday.
Stanley and Hatch later won the Class 1 Handicap (900m) with the heavily backed Jadentom ($1.65).
“We have got a good opinion of She Is Fierce and we also think Jadentom goes pretty good,” the Toowoomba-based Hatch said.
“It was a good effort by She Is Fierce in her first-up run at 1400m and I think she will develop into a good staying mare.”
She Is Fierce, a five-year-old by Savabeel, made her debut in April and was having just her fourth run on Saturday.
Hatch always knew her thin frame would need developing, while Jadentom had eight months between runs after falling ill in March.
“She Is Fierce is bred to stay and she was a little skinny thing when she came,” Hatch said. “We put her out and developed her and I think it’s going to pay off.
“Jadentom got real sick after her last run and we had to treat her heavily with antibiotics so I gave her a big spell to get over it and she has come back in terrific shape.”
Hatch backed up his Gold Coast double with a win by Desert Cowboy at Toowoomba on Saturday night.
