Supercoach open to Sydney switch

-

SYDNEY NRL coaches will be feeling more nervous than ever after Paul Green revealed he would be open to a move to the NSW capital.

The 45-year-old is set to become the hottest coach on the market heading into 2018 after taking injury-ravaged North Queensland to this year’s grand final.

Green also renewed the push for NRL coaches to set up their own union in the wake of Des Hasler’s call to fight Canterbury in the Supreme Court.

Green said there needed to be support for coaches who are sacked with existing contracts, labelling it “not good for the game”. But there is no doubt his admission about his own future will also intensify the heat on under-fire Sydney coaches.

Take Craig Bellamy out of the equation and there wouldn’t be a more wanted man in the NRL coaching ranks right now.

Green said he had held preliminary discussions with the Cowboys about a contract extension and he doesn’t hide the fact his preference would be to stay in Townsville.

Green has a deal until the end of next season but chose to hold off talks so he didn’t hurt the Cowboys’ season.
