Police are cracking down on dangerous “speed” freaks using Gold Coast waterways, targeting vessel operators high on drugs.

Todd Dawes: I am not sure why this has to be a ‘special operation to target’ a particular water craft (jetskis). You only have to go up the spit and Seaway area to see HEAPS of lunatics who have no idea about marine safety .... and to the other comment here about the big boats, umm, too many $$ not enough cents for sure... some of those 80ft Riverias etc that smash thru at 20+knots in crowded conditions... what ever happened to ‘safe speed’... and not to mention ‘no wash’.

Paul Conroy: Not all JetSki operators are drug using lunatics. This targeted minority also own big and small boats, car, motorbikes and heavy vehicles. Why are we stereotyping and targeting one and not focusing on the total population?

Mark Walker: Where’s the education! Tell people how long to wait after consuming drugs before operating boats and vehicles. That may help lower the number of accidents ... oh

but unfortunately lowers the number of charges laid ... and the public like to see that number high.

Mason Nugwood:

Excellent, don’t forget the big boats.

Kathryn James:

Men with money and toys ... but not too smart.

Diane Woods:

Good. I have watched maniacs from the Paradise Point Boat areas racing on noisy surf skis.
