Vandals burn bridge

-

SOUTHERN Gold Coast councillor Gail O’Neil has been left “heartbroken” after vandals caused significant damage to a Tugun bridge.

The pedestrian bridge in Len Wort Park, part of the Gold Coast Oceanway, was targeted by vandals who lit a fire under the walkway in the early hours of Monday.

It is understood several wheelie bins were filled with accelerant and set on fire under the wooden structure, which was heavily damaged.

Cr O’Neil said she was furious with the damage.

“It is heartbreaking and I felt like crying when I heard about it. I just can’t believe people would do something like this,” she said.

“It is a beautiful area and something for everyone to enjoy so you must have a perverse sense of humour to want to destroy something like this.”
