MITCHELL HAS SIGHTS SET ON 2018 SUCCESS
AUSTRALIA’S top ranked 400m sprinter Morgan Mitchell has revealed the lessons from her first Commonwealth Games in 2014 have fuelled her fire for an assault on the one lap race at GC2018.
The 23-year-old was on the Gold Coast last month for training with the national relay squad at the Sports Super Centre at Runaway Bay.
As a 19-year-old, Mitchell was run out in the semi-finals of the 400m at Glasgow but that experience helped her realise what it takes to be an elite athlete.
“I enjoyed it but I learnt what steps I needed to take to become a professional athlete,” said Mitchell.
“I think I needed to go through that to be the athlete I am today.
“After the Commonwealth Games, it was time to up the ante.”
Mitchell is now an Olympian, a three-time national champion and eighth fastest Australian woman of all-time over 400m.
She is motivated to go to another level and run sub 51 seconds at GC2018.
