No bail for kidnapping accused

- LEA EMERY

THE second man charged over the alleged kidnapping of a Benowa nurse did not apply for bail at his first court appearance yesterday.

Nicholas Dines, 18, was not produced for the brief appearance in the Southport Magistrates Court.

He is charged with two counts each of armed robbery, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and possession of dangerous drugs and one count each of torture, deprivation of liberty and break and enter. Magistrate Gary Finger adjourned the matter to December 8.

On Monday, his co-accused Harry Phillips-Bell, 17, was denied bail over the incident.

A 16-year-old and another 18-year-old are understood to be helping police with inquiries.

Police will allege Dines, Phillips-Bell and two other men threatened 25-year-old nurse Joe Brooker with a knife and gun before forcing him into the boot of his own car.

It will be alleged they forced him to withdraw $500 from his account before purposefully crashing the car with Brooker still in the boot.
