Soft toys and kids books replace riots and abuse

- HANNAH SBEGHEN

A PEACEFUL protest of soft toys and children’s books was held at the entrance to Milo Yiannopoulos’s show last night.

John Grant, 35, and Steve Miles, 21 set up a “ideological riot” as showgoers walked past to make their way in. “Milo is pro freedom of speech and so are we. If they feel that they have been upset by the words that Milo has spoken they can play with these toys,” Mr Grant said.

“We found the safe space idea on YouTube. We are the first ones in Australia to try it out.

“The whole idea is to appear harmless.

“We got stopped by the counter terrorism police who told us to stop.

“We were really inspired by the idea that we spent $28 on soft toys and books, we’ve been planning this for a couple weeks.

“If they respond to this in a violent fashion then it goes to show we’ve won. They are eating their own words of freedom of speech.

“Too many respond to Milo with violence. If they can’t respond to this in a non-violent way then we win the “ideological riot”.
