Sharks no go for Swallow

-

SOUTHPORT have missed out on signing former Kangaroos captain Andrew Swallow who has opted to link up with rival NEAFL side Aspley.

Sharks football manager Jarrod Field confirmed the club was in the race to secure Swallow who has moved to the Gold Coast after retiring from AFL at the end of the season to be closer to sibling David.

Swallow’s close friendship with former Roos teammate and Aspley captain Ben Warren proved to a deciding factor.

“We were always up against it with that connection he had,” Field said.

“We made him a really good offer and he decided to go to Aspley. We have spoken to a lot of blokes over the summer and we have signed some and haven’t signed others. That is footy unfortunately.”
