Lifesavers kept busy

-

LIFESAVERS were kept busy with multiple rescues across Gold Coast beaches yesterday.

About 13,000 beachgoers braved “choppy and windy” conditions to soak up some rays and have a splash.

But not everyone enjoyed a safe day at the beach.

A 40-year-old was transported in a stable condition to Gold Coast University Hospital after he “swallowed a lot of water” at the patrolled swimming enclosure at Broadwater Parklands about 11am.

Prior to that four people had to be plucked from the water at Southport Beach when they got into trouble in rough surf.

A Surf Life Saving Queensland spokesman urged beachgoers to always swim between the flags.
