TOOTS TO TAKE AIM AT ‘SMALL BAR COOL’

- RYAN KEEN

THE small bar scene on the Glitter Strip continues to grow with another launching at the weekend.

Anthony Bootleg officially opened his venue with capacity for 70 on Saturday night after a soft launch the night before.

His bar, simply named Toots, is on Surf Pde, Broadbeach, in a spot formerly occupied by a juice bar and cafe.

Toots joins the ranks of other Coast small bars – nearby Soho Place, Night Jar in Burleigh, Southport’s Not Tonight and Hidden in Tugun.

Toots aimed to be the perfect place for pre-drinks before a night out, serving American-style tapas, craft beers and signature cocktails.

“I want to bring a bit of Melbourne small bar cool to the Gold Coast,” Mr Bootleg said. “We want to deliver a boutique bar focusing on authentic American-type tapas with American quality service.

“The feedback we were getting, particularly from girls, was they wanted a place to go for pre-drinks before going clubbing.”

The music would be 50s 60s inspired swing with a modern twist, he said.

He had a licence until midnight. Toots opens from 11am but a breakfast service from 7am would launch in about a fortnight.
