Di Silvestro reveals why Coast will be home

- CONNOR O’BRIEN

SUPERCARS revelation Simona De Silvestro can’t wait to take her training up a gear when she joins the Gold Coast’s growing driver brigade.

De Silvestro is expected to move to Main Beach in February, having been based in Melbourne nearby her Nissan team throughout her rookie campaign this year.

The Swiss star will join a high-profile Coast-based fleet including Chaz Mostert, Shane van Gisbergen, James Courtney, Will Davison, Fabian Coulthard, Tim Slade and newly-crowned champion Jamie Whincup.

“All the other drivers who live up there rave about it so yeah I think it would be cool to see if I fit in well as well,” she admitted.

De Silvestro is eager to ramp up her level of outdoor training away from the Melbourne cold.

“After a while you have to kind of figure out what works for you and just having a bit nicer weather, that’s the biggest thing with moving up,” she said.

“I started thinking about it in the middle of the season. (The Gold Coast) is how you imagine Australia coming from Europe.

“For me I like training outside and I think that would be the perfect place to be able to do that.”

The Coast also shapes as the ideal location to take her surfing game to the next level, having begun learning in Melbourne.

The 29-year-old’s stocks on the racetrack rose dramatically during a stellar showing at last month’s Newcastle finale where she pulled off a series of sublime passes.

A pair of collisions ruined her chances of a good result in either race but De Silvestro plans to keep the momentum rolling into next season.

“The biggest thing next year is that we are going to need results,” she bluntly admitted.

De Silvestro has previously raced in IndyCar and Formula E.
