Cali’s the surf star
BANORA Point’s Cali Barrett has won the under-14 girls Sunshine Coast leg of the Surfer Groms Comp in two-foot conditions at Currimundi.
Barrett began the final with two eight-point rides thanks to some powerful forehand hacks and managed to hold off rivals Lucy Tanlder (Coolangatta), Lilliana Bowrey (Tewantin) and Tayla Green (Buddina). Currumbin’s Jahli Brooks made the final of the under-14 boys where he finished fourth behind Elijah Magner (Wurtulla), Zeb Stokes (Buddina) and Caleb Pont (Wurana).
All four were in the hunt until Magner locked in to a left hander with just 10 seconds left to win. The next stop will be held at the Gold Coast from January 10-11 next year.
