WHY TRAINER HAS BIGGER HOPES

TRAINER Garnett Taylor says Bold Aurora is blessed with the same perfect temperament as his famous sire Spirit Of Boom.

Bold Aurora won Saturday’s QTIS Two-Years-Old Colts & Geldings Maiden Plate (900m) at the Gold Coast with jockey Gary Geran in his first start.

It came weeks after the gelding finished second behind Fullazaboot – who placed second at Doomben on the weekend – in a trial.

“We liked what he did,” Sunshine Coast-based Taylor told the Bulletin.

“He travelled along nicely and did everything right. I thought he could win.

“He is well educated and has done well in a couple of jump outs and a trial.”

Bold Aurora – the $2.60 odds on favourite – went to the front early at Aquis Park and was never caught, finishing in a time of 51.77 seconds. Bold Aurora is the first of four horses in his stable sired by Spirit Of Boom that has gone to the races and Taylor said the young gelding has some of the same attributes as his respected parent.

Spirit of Boom won Group 1 races the Doomben 10,000 and William Reid Stakes in a career that brought in more than $2.4 million of prizemoney.

“He is a beautiful horse,” Taylor said of Bold Aurora.

“All of the Spirit Of Booms are. He is a good type and very relaxed around the stable. He is an easy horse to do anything with and doesn’t get upset about anything.

“We have got four at the moment. He is the first one to start and there is possibly one there that is better than him. He is up there but this other one goes pretty good too.”

The group have been bred by owner Graham Cleary.

Taylor said Bold Aurora would likely return to the Gold Coast in a fortnight to run over 900m.

“He will probably run a bit further than 900m but he seems to be a sprinting type,” Taylor said.

“There is plenty of improvement in him.”

Spirit Of Boom had connections to both winners in the opening two races at the Gold Coast on Saturday with his Less Ross-trained progeny Holdin’ My Own winning the QTIS Two-Years-Old Fillies Maiden Plate (900m).
