SHINING A LIGHT ON JUNIOR PARTICIPAT­ION

THE chair of Gold Coast City Council’s lifestyle/community committee says innovative solutions are required to cater for surging junior sport. Cr Hermann Vorster said the looming Commonweal­th Games was driving the surge plus council investment in its Active and Healthy program. In his division, Robina City Soccer Club numbers surged 350 to 750 in two years. To open more space for training and games, council had invested in lights for Robina Common: “New grounds are terribly expensive. The approach we are taking is better value out of fields we already have.”
