KEEPING COOL IS NEIGH PROBLEM

- KATE PARASKEVOS

most of the country sizzles in an intense heatwave, the Gold Coast will be somewhat spared from the scorching temperatures this coming week – but prepare to endure “uncomfortable” humidity and hot nights.

A Weatherzone spokesman said locals could expect mild conditions with temperatures to reach 29-30C during the day until next week.

But while the predicted temperatures are fairly mild for summer, he says we’ll still be sweating it out in high humidity which will make the average days seem even hotter.

“We are looking at fairly mild summer conditions for the Coast this week,” he said.

“But we are not really expecting significant rain so the humidity will be high.

“High humidity can be uncomfortable at times and it can feel much hotter. Night time temperatures won’t drop below 20 degrees or so, which is quite warm, so not much relief there.”

While locals battle the sticky humidity, there is one sure-fire way to cool off.

A dip in the river is a favourite for the horses – and riders – at the Gold Coast Equestrian Centre at Clagiraba.

The centre’s Morgan Tosser said the horses loved being treated to a swim on a hot day.

“They love splashing in the water,” she said. “It’s very fun for them and they love to cool off when it gets really hot.”
