ONE BEATLE MORE MEMORABLE THAN FOUR

-

AT the Nerang RSL on Sunday after Paul McCartney performed in Brisbane the night before, a 56-year-old bloke is giving a concert review to his parents. Their responses are as dry as the hinterland before summer rain. It went something like this.

Son: I saw a Beatle in the flesh last night. It was amazing.

Mother: Just one. You know you’ve seen all four, don’t you?

Son: What are you talking about, you crazy woman?

Mother: We were in Melbourne when they came out in 1963 and we went to the Southern Cross Hotel and they came out on the balcony and you waved at them from your pram. Son: How far were we away from them?

Mother: About that far (points to the pokies nearby).

Son: How come we never talked about it when I got older? Dad (chipping in): You never asked. You probably forgot to. Son: Let’s have another drink. Dad: Good. It’s your shout.
