OUR SOLID CHOICE

-

SOMEONE once described a resume as a wish list of qualities we’d all like to have.

Maybe. What we know for certain is that our Gold Coast Power 100 list today is a warts-and-all assessment of the city’s movers and shakers. This is no wish list. It is the list of who matters and tells the story of our city at this point in time – where it’s going, how it’s going and who’s running the show.

The Gold Coast’s population is the most transient in the nation, and that is reflected ironically in the person who tops the list this year and the organisation he runs. Gold Coast Commonwealth Games CEO Mark Peters holds the key position for the city’s most important event ever, becoming a rock-solid foundation right now for a city whose physical structure and biggest industry – tourism – are built on sand.

The irony of course is that once the Games finish in April, the event, the organisation and Mr Peters’ position all disappear. What remains though will be the legacy the Games and the people who made it possible have left us.
