YOU may have missed this momentous anniversary.

This time 30 years ago PR Princess Karen Phillips was crowned ... ta da ... Miss Lady Finger. In case the significance of the title eludes you, the quest was an integral part of the Tweed Banana Festival with different young women chosen to represent varieties of bananas. The title even helped Karen land a prestigious job when she went to London.

“I was very proud of my win and put it at the top of my CV for a job I wanted. The company was so intrigued by the thought of a ‘Miss Lady Finger’ that even though the position was filled, they called me in to check me out and I landed a great job out of it,” she laughed.
