The Gold Coast Bulletin

Double the fun in Supercars pit

-

GOLD Coast’s brigade of Supercars drivers is set to hit double digits next year as it increasingly becomes recognised as home of the sport.

The Bulletin can reveal the number of Gold Coast-based drivers will swell from seven to 10, with Nissan’s Simona De Silvestro moving up from Melbourne in the off-season and rookies Todd Hazelwood and Jack Le Brocq to live nearby their respective Yatala teams.

Hazelwood will drive for Supercars newcomers Matt Stone Racing while Le Brocq will be announced at Tekno Autosports in the near future. The trio join a star-studded contingent featuring Fabian Coulthard, Shane van Gisbergen, Chaz Mostert, Tim Slade, Will Davison, James Courtney and seven-time series winner Jamie Whincup.

Teams champion DJR Team Penske’s workshop is at Stapylton. Most other drivers and teams are Melbourne-based.

Supercars has an office in Southport and runs an annual mega event, the Gold Coast 600, through the streets of Surfers Paradise.
