Two more face arson charges
POLICE have charged two more men over the arson of a private Gold Coast college last year that caused nearly $7 million in damage.
Seven fire crews attended the huge blaze at St Andrews Lutheran College around 11pm on April 25 last year to find the building ablaze.
After a 19-month investigation, police charged a 20-yearold Mermaid Beach man with two counts of arson in November including the school fire and a playground fire at a Tallebudgera park on April 20, 2016.
Now a 19-year-old Tallebudgera man has been charged with two counts of arson, while a 20-year-old Coolangatta man was also charged with arson.
The pair will appear in Southport Magistrates Court on January 15, 2018.
Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Aubort said the event had impacted the students, staff and wider community and they were pleased to have the men put before the court.
“We would like to thank each and every member of the public who came forward and shared information with police throughout this protracted investigation,” Det Senior-Srgt Aubort said.
