SONS OF GUNS SET FOR BATHURST MARATHON

- CONNOR O’BRIEN

MATT Brabham will make his Bathurst debut as part of an all-Gold Coast trio set to vie for glory at the 12 Hour race in February.

Brabham was yesterday announced alongside fellow third-generation racer Aaron Seton and former Supercars veteran Tony Longhurst in a privateer team to tackle the Mountain in a BMW GT4.

However Longhurst, who is underpinning the entry via his business The Boat Works, could yet make way for another driver with a call to be made after an upcoming test run.

“I am still undecided about driving or not but it is terrific that we have created something to give a couple of young talents like Matt and Aaron the chance to have a burn around,” he said.

“Both kids are quick and wonderful young men who just have a passion for the sport.”

Former The Southport School student Brabham, who raced at the Indianapolis 500 last year, has a rich family history with Mount Panorama.

His father Geoff won the Bathurst 1000 in 1997, while his late grandfather Sir Jack – a three-time Formula One world champion – claimed victory in the Great Race 37 years earlier.

“I am looking forward to having my first outing at Mt Panorama and this is a terrific way to do it,” Matt, 23, said.

“It is pretty cool to be heading to Bathurst with the group of people we have given the history of all three families separately and together over the years.”

Seton is the 19-year-old son of Australian icon Glenn and grandson of 1965 Bathurst winner Barry Seton.
