Motorists caught out

A NUMBER of motorists have been caught out during a road safety campaign by Gold Coast police.

The drivers included a 37year-old Mermaid Waters man who attempted a U-turn on the Gold Coast Highway at Mermaid Beach on December 13 at 12.50am. He hit the gutter and travelled south in the wrong direction before crashing into a light pole.

It was alleged he returned a positive blood alcohol reading of 0.239. The driver is expected to appear in Southport Magistrate­s Court on January 1.

A 33-year-old Surfers Paradise man was caught driving in Tedder Ave, Main Beach,with a badly damaged tyre at 10.10pm on December 7.

An inspection revealed the rear right tyre had burst and there was damage to the bottom and rear of the vehicle.

The man allegedly returned a positive reading of 0.298 and was due in Southport Magistrate­s Court today charged with driving under the influence.

Police also caught a 48year-old Loganholme motorcycli­st travelling at 134km/hr in a 60km zone on the Mount Lindesay Highway at Rathdowney in broad daylight.

The biker was given a hefty infringeme­nt notice.
