Fresh inroads for farmers markets

GOLD Coasters are desperate for fresh produce, with new markets popping up across the city to feed the growing hunger.

Two new markets have opened since November, taking the total number of registered farmers markets in the city to nine, roughly double that of five years ago.

Among those backing the fresh food revolution is market operator Claire Crocker, who believes she saved Helensvale from permanentl­y losing a local market.

Ms Crocker said she launched the New Helensvale Farmers Markets after discoverin­g the original one was on the way out.
