OUR LITTLE CHRISTMAS MIRACLE

- HANNAH SBEGHEN hannah.sbeghen@news.com.au

JACOB KIRCH was hoping to make Christmas extra special for partner Erin – by popping the question. But the Jacobs Well man could never have imagined just how magical Christmas was about to become. Shortly after Jacob proposed on Christmas Eve, Erin went into labour, with beautiful baby Vinny – not due for another five weeks – born shortly afterwards. “I’m running on empty after such a huge 24 hours,” Erin said. “It is the craziest Christmas I’ve ever had.”

WHEN Jacob Kirch popped the big question to his fiance Erin on Christmas Eve he had no idea what was coming next.

The Jacobs Well family had just sat down to Christmas Eve dinner when they were greeted by two very big, and very welcome, surprises.

“After I proposed Erin’s water just broke and we think it was probably from the excitement and shock of it all because the baby wasn’t due for another five weeks,” Jacob said. “It has been such an amazing Christmas, it could not have been any more special.

“I planned the proposal with Erin’s family weeks ahead so everyone knew but her. We were in for a real shock when the baby decided to arrive.”

As well as celebrating the engagement, the family found themselves celebrating the arrival of baby boy Vinny Wolfgang Dean Kirch, who weighed in at just under six pounds.

“I had my two year old Harley wear a T-shirt that read ‘Mummy will you marry my Daddy?’ and I asked him to walk down the hall and show Erin,” Mr Kirch said.

“She burst into tears and said yes. Harley was hugging her and it was all pretty emotional and that’s when her water broke.

“Erin just looked at me and said ‘my waters broke’ and we all jumped up.”

Mrs Kirch said the two big events had made it the biggest year of her life.

“Jacob thought I was joking when I told him but I really was in labour,” she said.

“I’m running on empty after such a huge 24 hours. It is the craziest Christmas I’ve ever had.

“The best part was having my family around me to experience the whole lot. It was very intimate and thoughtful.”

Mr Kirch said baby Vinny was doing well and Erin was recovering, but the family were a day late to their Christmas dinner.

The cold ham and potato bake were still plated when Mr Kirch and his son Harley arrived home the next day.

“After Erin’s water broke we were all madly rushing around, we didn’t expect it,” the father-of-two said.

“Our fridge is still packed with cheese platters. Erin had organised such a big Christmas lunch.

“It was quite spectacular and I don’t think our Christmas will ever be the same, especially not for Harley who has a brother to share it with now, and I’ve got a fiance.”
