Options are Calculated

CALCULATED has the opportunity to push his $2 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas claims when he lines up in the #TheRaces Handicap at Randwick today.

Calculated, by former champion and dual Cox Plate winner So You Think, has just one win from his five starts but is a colt of obvious promise.

The Chris Waller-trained horse is on the third line of betting for the January 13 Guineas at $8 behind Pierata ($4.60) but could challenge for favouritism if he wins with authority in today’s 1200m race.

Waller considered saving Calculated for a 1350m race at the Gold Coast on Saturday but thought the Randwick race was a better option.

“If we don’t run Calculated (today) then he might draw the outside barrier at the Gold Coast and that would make it very difficult,’’ said Waller’s stable representative Charlie Duckworth.

“But there are only six runners at Randwick, he has a good jockey (Blake Shinn) riding in form so we will take our chances (today).

“If he runs well, he can still go to the Magic Millions.’’
