HOCKEY’S PLACE IN THE GAMES HISTORY

-

Hockey was first included at the Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur in 1998.

Australia is the most successful nation having won all but one of the hockey gold medals since 1998.

India won the women’s gold in 2002.

The field of play is rectangular, 91.40 metres long and 55 metres wide.

There are no left-handed sticks in field hockey and players must use only one side of the stick.

Men’s hockey has the fastest swing speed of any sport with sticks reaching up to 166km per hour.

At GC2018, each team will field 11 players and seven substitutes for each match.

There will be 54 matches played across the 10 days of competition.
