FURIOUS police have warned there will be no let-up in their Christmas road safety campaign after capturing a number of reckless drivers travelling far over the speed limit on the M1.

Cops dubbed one leadfoot the state’s “most high-risk speeding motorist” after clocking his car travelling at 177km/ h on the M1 at Yatala on Boxing Day.

Another driver was captured going 162km/h on the same stretch of the motorway yesterday, while police also caught a driver doing 157km/h at Coomera.

A police spokesman said while it was shocking drivers were being so reckless during the holiday period, officers regularly encountered the bad behaviour.

“It happens all year round and it is something police continue to target,” he said.

“While those (speeds) sounds extreme, we do also see similar things at other times of the year.

“Police will continue to crack down on motorists speeding.

“Targeting the fatal five around the holiday period continues into January.”

In another case of drivers behaving badly, a motorist blew almost four times over the legal limit when they tested at 0.182 at Pimpama yesterday.

So far 275 Queensland drivers have returned positive tests for drug or drink driving over the Christmas period.

On Boxing Day alone Queensland police performed 4926 Random Breath Tests with 26 positive results, 82 roadside drug tests with 12 positive results and caught 1903 motorists speeding.

The Festive Break phase of the Christmas Road Safety Campaign will continue until January 3.
