GAME-CHANGING ATTRACTION EDGES CLOSER TO TEE-OFF

A NEW local landmark has become the talk of tourist town on the Gold Coast five months before it opens.

A ring of 25, 55m-tall posts rising from the ground at Movie World, at Oxenford, are proving a hot topic of conversation with theme park visitors and motorists travelling along the M1.

The posts will anchor state-of-the-art netting at the new $35 million Topgolf sports entertainment facility.

The game-changing golf attraction is due to open on a 6ha site near the Outback Spectacular by June.

Topgolf is expected to help Movie World owners Village Roadshow Theme Parks drive home a recent upswing in visitor numbers.

Village Roadshow has teamed up with US entertainment company Topgolf for the attraction – Topgolf’s first joint venture outside of the US and Britain.

Village Roadshow Theme Parks executive general manager of marketing and sales Bikash Randhawa said Topgolf would offer the Coast a new level of entertainment.

“We can see just how welcome the venue is based on the number of inquiries we’re receiving – from the public and from corporate businesses, both locally and interstate,” he said.

Topgolf will employ 400 to 500 people, with recruiting to begin in the new year.

The venue will feature multi-level climate-controlled hitting bays, microchipped balls and real-time feedback for players of all ages and abilities.
